Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 September 2026

Adventure Base ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and store personal information when you visit our website, shop with us online or in store, hire products, contact us, or otherwise deal with us.

Who we are: Adventure Base (ABN 65 615 693 288), of 160 Katoomba St, Katoomba NSW 2780. Our website is https://www.adventurebase.com.au, operated on the Neto by Maropost ecommerce platform.

1. What personal information we collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:

• Identity and contact details — such as your name, email address, phone number, and postal or delivery address.
• Order and transaction details — products purchased or hired, order history, payment method (for example PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express), and related fulfilment information. We do not store your full card numbers; payment details are submitted to our bank or payment processor.
• Account and website activity — if you create an account or use our site, information such as login details, preferences, and records of pages viewed or items added to cart (where relevant to providing the service).
• Hire booking details — contact and order details needed to fulfil hire bookings (for example wetsuits or canyon kit).
• Communications — messages you send us by email, phone, web forms, or in store, and our responses.
• Technical and analytics data — such as IP address, browser type, device information, and how you use our website, collected through cookies and similar technologies (including Google Analytics 4).
• Marketing preferences — whether you have opted in or out of receiving promotional communications from us.

We generally do not collect sensitive information. If you provide it voluntarily (for example in a message to us), we will only use it for the purpose you provided it and as permitted by law.

2. How we collect it

We collect personal information in ways that include:

• Directly from you — when you place an order online or in store, book a hire, create an account, subscribe to marketing, fill in a form, email or call us, or visit our Katoomba store.
• Automatically — when you browse our website, through cookies, analytics tools (including Google Analytics 4), and similar technologies.
• From third parties — such as payment processors when you pay, shipping carriers when fulfilling delivery, or our ecommerce platform (Neto by Maropost) in the course of operating the site.

Where it is practical, we collect personal information directly from you. If you choose not to provide information we need, we may not be able to process an order, fulfil a hire, arrange delivery or store pickup, or respond to your enquiry.

3. Why we collect and use it

We collect and use personal information for purposes including:

• processing and fulfilling online and in-store orders;
• arranging delivery by shipping carriers, or store pickup at 160 Katoomba St, Katoomba NSW 2780;
• processing hire bookings and providing the hired products;
• processing payments through our payment processors;
• managing your customer account and providing customer support;
• communicating with you about your orders, hires, enquiries, and our services;
• improving our website, products, and customer experience (including through analytics such as Google Analytics 4);
• running advertising and shopping campaigns (including Google Ads), where applicable;
• sending marketing communications where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law, and managing opt-outs;
• meeting legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations; and
• protecting our business, customers, and website (for example fraud prevention and security).

4. Who we disclose it to

We may disclose personal information to:

• Shipping carriers — to deliver orders to you.
• Payment processors — such as those handling PayPal and card payments (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). Card data is submitted to the bank or processor and is not stored by us.
• Neto by Maropost our ecommerce platform provider, which hosts and processes store and order data as needed to operate the website.
• Google — for analytics (Google Analytics 4) and, where we use them, advertising and shopping services (Google Ads).
• Email and communications tools — service providers we use to send transactional or marketing messages.
• Professional advisers — such as lawyers, accountants, or auditors, where reasonably necessary.
• Regulators and law enforcement — where we are required or authorised by law, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers (including cloud and platform providers such as Neto by Maropost, payment processors, and Google) may store or process personal information on servers located outside Australia.

Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient handles the information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, or we rely on other permitted bases under the Privacy Act.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to:

• Essential / session cookies — keep the site working (for example shopping cart, checkout, and login sessions).
• Analytics — understand how visitors use the site. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for this purpose.
• Advertising — if we run Google Ads or similar advertising, cookies or related technologies may be used to measure and improve ads and shopping campaigns.

You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect site functionality (for example checkout).

7. Direct marketing and opt-out

Where permitted by law, we may use your contact details to send you information about products, offers, or news from Adventure Base.

You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the message, or by contacting us at admin@adventurebase.com.au. Opting out of marketing does not affect messages we need to send about your orders, hires, or account.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. This includes appropriate technical and organisational measures on our systems and with our service providers.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please keep any account passwords confidential and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of your account or information.

9. Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law. As a guide:

• Order and transaction records — typically retained for about 7 years to meet tax and business record-keeping requirements.
• Analytics data — generally retained for a shorter period, depending on the settings of the analytics tools we use.
• Marketing contact details — retained until you opt out or we no longer need them for that purpose.

When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

10. Access, correction, and complaints

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will show when it was most recently revised. The current version will be available on our website. Continued use of our website or services after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law.
