THE DEFINITIVE TEXT FOR ADVANCED CLIMBERS AND MOUNTAIN GUIDES

Marc and I wrote The Manual during the spring and summer of 2016. We met during my studies and exams to become an IFMGA-licensed mountain guide, over the span of five or six years. Marc is one of the senior-most instructors/examiners for the AMGA and luckily I didn't blow it in front of him!

 Marc was the third American to earn the IFMGA credential--or get his "pin" as guides say--back in the late '90s. I recognized Marc's immense talent as a guide and instructor, so when he stepped back from the AMGA I immediately suggested, "Hey, we should write a book." 

More than two years after that first conversation, we're both proud to see The Manual in print. Geared towards advanced alpine and rock climbers (skiers will glean some technical tricks from it, too), it is now required reading for all candidates entering those disciplines in the AMGA. There's no other book out there like it, in terms of tried-and-true guide techniques.
